Landscape Lighting Service in Mohnton, Pennsylvania

Evergreen Contracting & Irrigation designs landscape lighting for homes across Mohnton. Nothing here sits on a neat grid. Streets follow the hills, lots came out irregular, and houses point wherever they point. That changes how a property should be lit. Free estimates arrive within a week, and repairs are scheduled in 1 to 2 weeks.

From Briars to Six Knitting Mills

In 1846 Benjamin Mohn bought a farm along Wyomissing Creek. One log cabin stood in sight and the rest was bushes and briars. There was not even a public road. He put up a grist and saw mill, and a town grew around it.

The post office opened in 1857 under the name Mohn’s Store. Gunsmithing gave way to hat making. By 1887 the mills here turned out over seven thousand wool hats a day. Hosiery came after that. The borough was finally created by court decree on March 18, 1907.

Houses That Do Not Face the Street

Berks County’s own historian once puzzled over this town. He noted the hills, the haphazard lots, and the complete lack of a street plan. He was right, and it is still true. Plenty of homes here sit at an angle to the road they are addressed on.

That matters more at night than it does at noon. The elevation an architect called the front is often not the face people see driving past. We work out the real approach angle first and light that view. The formal front still gets attention, but it stops being the whole plan.

Your Windows Are Part of the Picture

Warm light coming out of a window is doing work whether you planned it or not. Most people never account for it. Then the exterior gets turned up too high. The windows go flat by comparison and the house looks empty.

We treat the window glow as part of the composition. Exterior levels are set so those windows still read warm and lived in. It usually means less output on the facade than people expect. Light from inside plus gentle light on the walls reads as occupied. That is the whole point.

A Plan That Works With and Without Leaves

A scheme designed in July is a different scheme in January. Full canopy hides fixtures, softens beams, and blocks whole sightlines. Come November all of that disappears. Suddenly the hardware is visible and beams reach places nobody intended.

We look at both conditions before finalizing anything. Fixtures get positioned so they stay reasonably hidden once the leaves drop. Beams that would overshoot in winter get tightened or re-aimed. A tree lit for its bare branch structure often looks better in February than it does in summer.

The Blank Side Wall Nobody Uses

Almost every house has one elevation with few windows or none. Owners tend to write it off as the boring side. It is frequently the best surface on the property.

A large uninterrupted wall takes light beautifully. Grazed from close in, brick and stone show every joint and shadow. Washed from further out, the same wall becomes a soft glowing plane that lifts the whole yard. There are no windows to worry about glaring into either, which makes the job simpler.

Lighting to Sit In, Not Just to Look At

Most conversations start with the front of the house. That is light meant to be looked at from the street. The back of a property is where people actually spend their evenings. It needs something different entirely.

For sitting outside, the source has to be low or overhead and well shielded. Anything at eye level ruins both the mood and the conversation. We keep fixtures below seat height around a patio or tuck them above and out of view. Nobody should be squinting at their own back yard.

What a System Costs to Run

People ask about the electric bill more than anything else. It is a fair question and the answer surprises most of them. Low voltage LED fixtures draw very little. A whole property often runs on less than a couple of old bulbs.

Timers and zones bring that down further. There is no reason for the back garden to burn all night when nobody is out there. We set schedules so the front runs longer and the rest shuts off early. You can see the range in our outdoor lighting work.

Working With a System You Already Have

Not every call needs to end in a full replacement. Plenty of properties here already have something in the ground that stopped working properly. Often the fixtures are fine and the problem sits somewhere else entirely.

We test the transformer, the runs, and the connections before recommending anything. Corroded joints and undersized cable cause most of the failures we find. Sometimes a handful of repairs and a re-aim brings the whole thing back. When replacement genuinely is the better call, we say so and explain why.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our house sits at an angle to the road. Does that complicate things?

It complicates a template. It does not complicate a proper design. Angled and irregular lots are normal in this borough, and we plan for them as a matter of course.

The first thing we establish is where people actually see your house from. That is often the corner of the driveway or a point up the street. Rarely straight on from the sidewalk. We build the plan around that line of sight. The formal front elevation still gets treated, but it stops driving every decision.

How much will this add to our electric bill?

Less than almost anyone expects. Low voltage LED fixtures draw a very small amount of power each. A full property setup often uses less than a pair of old incandescent bulbs would have.

Zones and timers reduce it further. Your walkway and front can run into the evening while the back garden shuts off early. Nothing has to sit lit all night unless you want it that way. We set the schedule with you when the system goes live.

Will the lights look wrong once the leaves fall?

Only if nobody planned for it. Summer canopy hides fixtures and softens beams, and all of that goes away in November. We check both conditions during design and position fixtures accordingly.

We already have a system that half works. Do we start over?

Usually not. We test the transformer, cable runs, and connections first. Corroded joints and undersized wire cause most failures we see. Our repair team can often bring an existing setup back for far less than a rebuild.

Should we light the side of the house with no windows?

Very often yes. A big blank wall is one of the best surfaces you have. Grazed from close in it shows real texture, and washed from further back it glows softly. There are no windows to glare into either.
