Older Than Harrisburg by Thirty Years
George Fisher set out from Philadelphia in 1752 with three Conestoga wagons. The trip took him five days. He laid the town out in 1755 on ground his parents had deeded him. The name came from sitting midway between Lancaster and Carlisle.
His original plan was three streets running east and west and five running north and south. The borough came in 1828, after canal traffic turned the place into a busy port. Portsmouth, down at the mouth of the Swatara, merged in with it in 1857. Nowhere else in Dauphin County goes back this far.

A sleeve can be pushed underneath from one side to the other without touching the top. On a short crossing that takes very little time. Longer or thicker slabs need more care, and occasionally the route is better going around. We work that out before quoting rather than discovering it on the day.
Decks, Rails, and Where the Glare Goes
A deck is easy to get wrong. The usual approach puts bright fixtures on the posts at roughly eye height. Sit down for the evening and you are staring straight into them.
Light on a deck belongs low or hidden. Riser lights under each step and small units below the rail cap. Nothing at all sits in the seated sightline. Any source overhead gets shielded so you see the pool and not the lamp. Done that way the deck stays usable rather than just visible.
Replaceable Lamps or Sealed Units
There are two kinds of LED fixture and the difference matters more than the price gap suggests. In a sealed unit the diode is built permanently into the housing. When it eventually fails, the whole fixture is scrap.
A fixture with a replaceable lamp keeps its housing in service for decades. You swap a lamp for a few dollars rather than buying a new unit and re-digging the stake. It also lets you change beam angle or output later without touching anything else. We lean toward replaceable wherever the design allows it.
